The fall of Khan Touman ~ Another strategic victory for Harakat Ahrar as-Sham and Jabhat an-Nusra

On previous events it has been proven that the Islamist Jihadi groups of Harakat Ahrar as-Sham and Jabhat an-Nusra became the spearhead of resistance against al-Assad’s army. In the last few weeks they single handedly conquered strategic cities as ar-Raqqa and even installed a sort of Islamic government and jurisdiction. This video is one of the Anasheed by Jabhat an-Nusra, performed “live” in the governorate hall of ar-Raqqa, as if they would like to mark the end of a secular government in ar-Raqqa.

The conquering of some weapon’s depots in Khan Touman on March 16th can be seen as another strategic success. During the operation the Jihadi’s conquered Grad rockets, mortar and tank shells and hand grenades, as well as tanks and several other military vehicles.

This video posted by one of the accounts of the Syrian Islamic Front gives you an insight on how the troops of Harakat Ahrar as-Sham and Jabhat an-Nusra prepared the operation, performed it and what they conquered. The variety and ammount of weapons seized is immense.

Another Islamist Jihadi group involved in the seize of the Khan Touman is Majlis as-Shura al-Mujahideen. They as well stress their role in the conquest in the following video (via @Charles_Lister)

An official communication by Jabhat an-Nusra was released through their media channel al-Manara al-Bayda on March 18th. This link will direct you to their offical media release number 247.

The fast emergence of Jihadist groups and their strategic victories are getting the CIA and US officials more nervous by the day. One might wonder how much longer it will take before the US and maybe even NATO start more than covert operations fighting the growing power of Jihadism in Syria.
